IWWF World Championships Postponed for 2021

The IWWF and organisers, the  Italian Waterski & Wakeboard Federation, have made the decision to postpone the 2021 IWWF World Wakeboard Championships to July 2022.

This decision was made in consultation with the IWWF President, IWWF European Confederation President, IWWF World Wakeboard Council and IWWF World Medical Committee.  With the global pandemic still affecting international travel, which will impact participation significantly, and the uncertainties of organising an event in 3-months time, it was decided that postponing the event to July 2022 is the best course of action.

The new dates of the IWWF World Wakeboard Championships, to be held in Rieti, Italy,  are 25th to 30th July 2022 and the event will be organised in collaboration with Club Nautico Varco Sabino Wave (CNVS WAVE).

Riders will compete for IWWF World titles in ten age-group categories for both men and women (14 & Under, 18 & Under, 30 & Over, 40 & Over and Open) and team overall title. The event will offer a $70,000AUD cash purse to riders competing in the Open Men’s & Women’s category.

The event will be run based on 2021 IWWF World Wakeboard Rules age groups.

Mr. Nuno Eca, Chairman of the IWWF World Wakeboard Council, said, “postponing the IWWF World Wakeboard Championships will give more Federations the opportunity to travel safely to Italy and compete in this prestigious international event, not to mention enjoy the opportunity of ride behind a Centurion Ri245, the Official IWWF World Wakeboard Championships Tow Boat.”

“We are disappointed that the IWWF Worlds is being postponed, but just like every challenge we face, we see this as a great opportunity for improvement. We will take this opportunity to help continue to make the IWWF Wakeboard World Championships the most prestigious wakeboard event, towed by the World’s best boat and better than it has ever been when it does happen,” Amy Mauzy, Vice President of Sales and Marketing Centurion & Supreme Boats.

The IWWF will continue to monitor the world-wide coronavirus situation while the Italian Waterski & Wakeboard Federation advises on event and travel restrictions leading up to the event.  Federations will be informed ahead of time if there will be a change.
