Singapore to introduce battery powered work boats

The Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore is looking at new ways to decarbonise the small workboats that keep its busy harbour humming.

Singapore is home to about 1,600 licensed diesel-powered harbor craft, like small tugs and lighter vessels, which help serve the thousands of merchant ships that call at the port every year. The MPA is sponsoring three separate projects – led by Sembcorp, Keppel and SeaTech – to explore new ways to use battery-electric power aboard these short-range working vessels.
